Happy Monday! I'm sharing some important details about our upcoming band events. The next six weeks will be very busy. I know there is a lot of information below, but I wanted to send it out as early as possible to give families an opportunity to plan ahead.

Tuesday, September 19 - AISD Marching Band Jamboree - 6:30 PM at Burger Stadium
Please join us on Tuesday, September 19, at the Tony Burger Stadium, 3200 Jones Road, Austin, TX 78745, for the 50th Annual AISD Marching Band Jamboree. We are offering band students the opportunity to stay after school for free pizza and a ride on a one-way AISD school bus to this event. Permission forms were distributed last week and are due ASAP. Jamboree features marching bands from each high school in the district, and showcases their unique styles, talents, and hard work. Students may Band members must wear their O.Henry Band T-shirt for free admission. Admission is $3 for the general public. This is an optional enrichment activity for O.Henry Band members and their families.
Friday, September 29 - O. Henry Round-Up (3:50 – 6 PM)
Members of the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform at the O.Henry Round Up on Friday, September 29. We will perform on the front lawn of the school between 4 - 4:30 PM. The attire for this performance is the Red O.Henry Band t-shirt. Students have the option of wearing shorts or pants for this event. They may also bring clothes to change into after the performance. All band students will report to the band hall during 8th period (3:30 PM) to get set up. Our performance will begin right after school, and we should be finished by 4:30 PM. Everyone is encouraged to stay and enjoy the rest of Roundup after our performance. We hope to see you there!
Thursday, October 5 - OHMS Band Night at Austin HS game
On Thursday, October 5, all O.Henry 7th and 8th grade band members will perform (in the stands) at the Austin High vs. Buda Johnson football game at House Park. Students need to arrive at House Park by 6:30 PM wearing the red O.Henry Band t-shirt with blue or black jeans/pants (no shorts for this event). There is no bus transportation for this game. Students must bring their own instrument and pep music. All instrument cases should be kept in your vehicle. We will leave immediately after we watch the half time show. O.Henry students will be admitted free with their band shirt; however, admission is $7 for parents and adults. All tickets are sold online at www.gofan.co and usually go live the week of the game. AISD is not accepting any money at the gate. We hope you can join us for an exciting evening of music, fun, and football!
Pep Band performs at OHMS Homecoming Game on Tuesday, Oct. 10
This year the 7th/8th grade Pep Band will perform in the stands the O. Henry “A” football game vs. Kealing on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Pep Band consists of members of the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. “A” football team members will compete with the football team. “B” Team football players will perform with the band. Please see the attached document for important details about these two events. We need the attached football permission form signed and returned at your earliest convenience. We are also in need of parent volunteers to help out on game days. Mathews Elementary Octoberama - Saturday , Oct 21
We are looking for volunteers to play pep music at Octoberama on Saturday, October 21. This event takes places at Mathews Elementary (906 W. Lynn Street, 78703) from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. We don’t have a specific performance time yet, but this would only be about a 30-minute commitment. Students are free to leave or stay and enjoy the festivities after we perform. The attire is red O.Henry Band T-shirts and jeans. More details to come soon!
Casis Carnival Parade -Thursday, Oct 26 at Casis Elementary at 8 AM
We will perform at Casis Elementary School on Thursday, October 26th for a Pre Carnival-Celebration. We will be looking for 15 - 20 band members to play pep music. Students will need to arrive at Casis at 7:30 a.m. wearing the Red O.Henry Band t-shirt and jeans. This event will start at 8 AM and should end by 8:45 AM. We will take and AISD school bus back to O.Henry after the performance. More details to come soon!
District Band Auditions (*Select Students Only) - Saturday, October 28 (8 a.m. – 12 Noon)
On Saturday, October 28, select O.Henry band students will compete for a spot in the prestigious Texas Music Educators Association All–Region Band. Students must be able to play all of the Region Etudes and Scales by October 1st in order to be entered into this event. Students that do well at the district level (Round 1)will move on to compete at the Region level (Round 2) the following week. Region Band Auditions will take place on Saturday, November 5 at Covington MS.
