ACADEMIC SUPPORT:
SECTION 504 SERVICES: Services may include specialized instruction, classroom accommodations, and assistive technology. See the school counselor or campus 504 Coordinator for more information about services for qualifying students.
AVID: AVID is the acronym for Advancement Via individual Determination: AVID is a college preparatory course whose mission is “to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.”
DYSLEXIA: Dyslexia is a learning disability in reading. People with dyslexia have trouble reading at a good pace and without mistakes. They may also have a hard time with reading comprehension, spelling, and writing. But these challenges aren’t a problem with intelligence.
ESL: The Middle School language arts curriculum provides English as a Second Language (ESL) for English language learners (ELLs), who are recent immigrants, (0-3 years in U.S. schools). Identified students in ESL classes develop their abilities to listen, speak, read, and write in English.
GT SERVICES: Does your child grasp concepts quickly and are they able to connect ideas across subjects and experiences? Do they have an active working memory and like to delve deeply into their learning? You might have a GT student! GT screening and testing requires parent/guardian permission by the campus deadline.
SPECIAL EDUCATION: Special education and related services are specifically designed instructional services developed to support students with disabilities within the general education curriculum. The intent of the support services is to enable all students with disabilities to make progress in the general education curriculum, to participate in extracurricular and nonacademic activities, and to be educated and participate with non-disabled peers in the public school system.
