Austin ISD: Open for Learning 08/21/2020

Top Story: Open for Learning

As we move from the summer into the first weeks of school, the weekly AISD Summer Vision newsletter will now be called Open For Learning. Each week, we will continue to include important information our families need to know. Every edition will feature the top news items from the week, important highlights from our reopening plan, and relevant information and links to other important stories in Austin ISD.

To further inform our families, we have completely revamped our COVID-19 webpage to now be the Open For Learning page. It is now easier than ever to find relevant information pertaining to the reopening of schools. The site features up-to-date information on academics, technology, athletics and more. We are committed to keeping our families informed and engaged at the start of the year and beyond.

Campus Calls Before First Day

Austin ISD families will receive calls from campus staff this week and next to gather individual information and student needs for the first day of school Sept. 8.

The individualized conversations will include discussions on technology needs and general information on the upcoming school year. The discussions are essential for Austin ISD staff to prepare for the first four weeks of school in regard to on-campus staffing and support for families.

Connecting with families will be an ongoing effort to support student needs during this unique year. Please note, this initial outreach will not be in place of the survey to continue with remote learning or opt for on-campus learning beginning Oct. 5, if health conditions allow. That survey will take place prior to the Oct. 5 phased-in period of reopening.

In an effort to keep this as individualized as possible, families with multiple children will receive calls directly from each students’ campus.

AISD to Provide Meals Until School Starts and During Remote Learning

AISD will continue to provide free meals for any child under 19, and their parents or caregivers, until the start of the new school year. Friday, Aug. 14 was the last day meals were served at bus stop sites. Meals are now available at curbside locations only and meal times have changed to 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Also, the number of curbside meal sites has increased from 17 to more than 40 locations throughout Austin.

Meal delivery sites and more information can be found on the Open For Learning website.
