AISD Info: Summer Vision 2020 07/02/2020

Need to Know: AISD Offices Closed July 6–10 and draft overview plan

Austin ISD will be closed July 6–10 and “Summer Vision 2020” will not be published next week. The newsletter will return to its regular Thursday distribution schedule on July 16.

Online registration will still be available, however, AISD staff will not be accessible until our return to regular business hours on Monday, July 13.

If you have an emergency, please call AISD Campus Police at 512-414-1703.

Families who want to learn more about where the district is in terms of reopening can read the draft Overview for district plans to reopen. Please keep in mind that this is a draft given the information we currently have from the Texas Education Agency. The draft overview covers learning standards, facility access and more.

Need to Know: How Meal Service Will Likely Look for 2020–21

Breakfast and lunch will be offered in the classroom at all campuses for the 2020‐21 school year. Protocols for safe and sanitary meal service at all schools include:

  • Require food service staff to have temperature checks and health screenings each day.
  • Staff will wear face coverings and gloves during all food preparation and service.
  • Ensure teachers and staff assisting with meal distribution in the classroom wear face
  • coverings and gloves.
  • Deliver breakfast and lunch outside of the classroom to prevent contact with more people.
  • Implement handwashing with soap and water for 20 seconds by students and staff
  • before and after meal service. Students and staff may also use hand sanitizer.
  • No sharing of desks/tables or food. Perishable food items cannot be saved.
  • Meals for students with allergies will be delivered in packages labeled with their student ID. Campuses and classrooms may institute restrictions on foods brought from home to maintain student safety.

Austin ISD plans to send meals home with students for the days they are not on campus. AISD also plans to offer curbside meals at some locations for at-home learners.

No matter where meals are served, AISD is committed to providing healthy, tasty meals featuring chef-prepared, scratch-cooked recipes. Meals are made with local, sustainable, clean label ingredients, and vegetarian options are provided.
