A NOTE FROM MS. MALOTT

O. Henry Students and Families,

It was a great week to be an O. Henry Mustang as we embarked on our new learning territories as students, parents, teachers, and campus staff. It was so great to see so many of our Mustangs already engaged in connecting with their classmates and teachers, catching up and some show and tell (lots of pets had their debut), collaborating with teachers during tutorials and reaching out for help.

We may not have gotten it all right this first week and that is OKAY. New is HARD--many of us don’t like discomfort.  We were learning a new schedule and students were learning how to plan out their week. Some students were still waiting for technology to arrive. Many students and adults were also juggling taking care of family members, managing chores, and making sure to take time to rest and recharge.

We also wanted to make sure we made additional adjustments in our support.  Starting this week you will see in our newsletter and on our Blend Pages ways to stay connected:

NEW  Blend page with our Counselors

NEW Blend page to connect with our Library

NEW Teacher Office Hours and Tutorial Page-expanded with more notes

MORE resources for Digital Citizenship, Troubleshooting Guide, and ZOOM Expectations

We also want to make sure our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students have their technology resources.  If you still have not received your learning materials or have other technology needs please reach out to Angelica Tagle at 512-414-7103 or angelica.tagle@austinisd.org.  Also, OHMS is a Learning at Home packet pick up site on Wednesdays from 11-1 should you want additional learning resources.

I will be hosting a few optional parent check-ins this week via Zoom.  Links will be sent out separately via school messenger email. Question and Answer topics include district updates on grades, navigating distance learning, and anything else you might need help with.

Wed, 4/15, 7:45-8:15

Thu, 4/16, 7:45-8:15, 12:00, 5:00

I hope your second week of home learning is smooth for everyone. As always, if there is something we can help with, please reach out.  We are here to help

Make it a great week to be an O. Henry Mustang,

Marlo Malott, Proud Principal

NEW~From the O.Henry Cheerleaders: https://youtu.be/mAcE5Uys74A

Hey Mustangs, the O.Henry Cheerleaders have a message for you:

Even though we’re physically separated, we are STILL connected.

Even though our teachers are talking to us on Zoom and through Blend,

we STILL know how much they care about us and how much they miss us.

Even though we can’t cheer on our teams, play our sports, or perform our concerts, we STILL have school spirit.

Even though we are spread out around the city of Austin, we are STILL one Mustang Nation.

Our school looks different and the world feels different now; we are STILL O.Henry!
